IDENTITY FOR THE GLOBAL SPORT LAB AND HOME FIELDS
Created as a freelance project for the University of Washington International Studies “Global Sport Lab.”
These logos were created to represent a lab and project from the Jackson School of International Studies.
PROCESS
I was approached by my professor, Ron Krabill, to aid him and his team in creating a logo for the Global Sport Lab and identity and website (coming soon) for the “Home Fields” project within the lab. We worked collaboratively to realize his vision for the lab’s identity. Below are the preliminary logo ideas, which were based in the goal of creating a professional identity that tied in a little “sporty energy” while still remaining in the University Lab logo “space.”
From there, I refined our favorite direction into a final logo, wordmark, and icon. The icon, though simple and linear, references the shape languages of multiple different balls and fields represented across different sports. If you look close there’s a football, a soccer pitch, a basketball, and more... Once we locked down the identity for the Global Sport Lab, we developed the logo for Home Fields. Initially, we wanted the logo to feel “news-ey,” with a bold gothic typeface. However, once we reviewed and critiqued the intial proposals, we realized we liked the energy and rhythm of the one we selected for the final, because as a project of the Global Sport Lab, Home Fields could have a little more personality and spunk. Currently, I am helping develop a website for the Home Fields project, so please stay tuned for updates there!
